Platonov
Written by Anton Chekhov
My Role : Set and Costume Designer.
Written in 1878.
Chekhov's first large-scale drama.
Platonov, a disillusioned school teacher.
He thinks society is without ideas and principles, but is aware that he himself is very much a part of that society.
He makes four women all in love with him, one of which will make him meet his tragic end.
He recognises his position between the four women and retreats to alcohol in the end and gets handed his untimely death by the woman he promised to run away with and start a new life.

Initial renderings
In the initial design process I created these renderings of the studio space we were working in.
By putting ideas within the space that was discussed with the Director and Lighting Designer it allowed us to have clear communication about what we were all visualising, limiting any miscommunication to a minimum.
Model box
Scene 1 - Day, In the garden on the Voyinitzev house.
Scene 2.1 - A garden party, evening, In the garden of the Voyinitzev house.
Scene 2.2 - Night, a clearing in the forest.
Scene 3 - Morning, In the Platonov school house.
Scene 4 - Morning, In the garden of the Voyinitzev house.
Costume Drawings
We decided to set the piece in the 1950's in an unspecified place. This is because Ian and I felt as though the political and social climate are similar in both the 1950's and within the play.
I took a lot of inspiration from England in the 1950's
All drawn digitally.
